It's that time of year again - we are quickly approaching Harvest 2007, our 8th harvest! And you know what that means, yes, you guessed it, it's Dry T-Shirt Contest time again. Last year, the winning t-shirt saying was, "CLUSTER'S LAST STAND". In the past, our harvest t-shirts sported sayings such as:

It's happened. It hadn't happened yesterday but some time between last night and this afternoon, a few of our cabernet grapes turned from green to light purple, indicating veraison (technically defined as the period of the beginning of berry ripening. The berries become soft and take on the colors characteristic of their specific varieties. From the beginning of veraison to harvest, the berries will increase in volume, weight, and sugar content, also known as "brix"). I took several photos and came up to the office to download them only to realize that my card-reader was downstairs. So tonight, look for photos and follow along as we watch the "labor of our fruits!" Chantico.

Yesterday, Gerich found this little one laying in the sun on the winery crush pad. He quickly moved it into the shade. We got out a basket, a towel, a vial which we filled with water, and gave the little "Rocky" (Gerich named 'him') a few drops of water into his open beak. Silverado Vet Clinic, about a 30 mile drive from the winery, is affiliated with Napa Wildlife Rescue. We rushed Rocky down hoping he could be saved. The vet office took him in, called the Rescue, and we received a call today saying he'd be taken care of until he was well enough to be released. Is this more gratifying than, say, making wine? You bet.

Brandon Olsen is not only a phenomenal chef (check Ad Hoc in Yountville and see for yourself) but he also doubles as Anomaly's right- hand guy. Today, after watering "Anomaly Farms" veggie beds, he spent the day putting labels on our Anomaly Olive Oil! Chantico.

Here they are, as of this morning. Flowering is complete, there was no rain, it's time to celebrate and get ready for harvest! Chantico.
