We’re pleased to report that we survived another bottling day, this time without any major disasters! Maybe we’re finally getting the hang of this winemaking thing? We’ll let you decide from the video below. If you can’t see the video, … more →
Although it seems counterintuitive, early summer is better than harvest. Maybe it’s because June/July pruning is labor intensive and requires a critical mass of skilled workers to get the job right. After all, it was this past June when I … more →
Since our founding in 2008, we have relied on others to grow the grapes that go into our wines. For five years, our recipe for success has hinged on the long term relationships we’ve cultivated with some of the best … more →
For the 2010 harvest, we’ll be sourcing our Sonoma Coast pinot noir from Steve MacRostie’s Wildcat Mountain Vineyard. Located in the southern end of the Sonoma Coast AVA, Wildcat Mountain is a high elevation, low yielding vineyard that Steve uses primarily for his own estate bottling. Some small lots are sold to top pinot producers throughout [...]
I am soft, soft like Twinkie filling or a limp pillow that leaves you with a torticollis hangover in the morning. My first week of internship, I famously passed out in the OR, retractor in hand. The scrub nurse revived me with orange juice and Jell-O. After it happened twice more, she told my attending [...]
Many thanks to Brigade member Keith H. for this great shot taken off the coast of La Jolla on one of our few sunny summer days down here! I wonder if his little friend paired well with Bruliam pinot??
Come along as we visit our Rockpile zinfandel vineyard in early August and check on the progress of our grapes. If you can’t see the video below, please click here to watch it.
It’s hard to believe that it has already been ten weeks since I wrote a post about leaving San Diego to come up to Healdsburg for the summer. We’ve had a fantastic time here – getting reacquainted with old friends, making new friends, doing a lot of strong Bruliam work, and eating and drinking way too [...]
I am not ready for summer to end. Outside my window, purple Morning Glories are still blooming, and my first heirloom tomatoes just barely ripened. It’s been an unusual summer here in Healdsburg. This past summer has been the coldest on record in 50 years, with July fully 7 degrees below the annual average. Most [...]
91 Points – Tasted at a little more than a year of age, this Pinot Noir is a bit brusque. It should have been held back for another six months, to let the tannins, fruit and oak knit together. With very rich black cherry, black raspberry, cola and sweet smoky oak flavors, it should begin [...]
Yesterday we had a great day bottling our 2009 pinot noirs. We managed to get all three bottlings done in just under 5 hours. Next up – we get to start tasting in anticipation of an official release date. P.S. Anyone notice anything different about the labels this year? Put a note in the comments.
As we announced last week, we’re ecstatic to be sourcing our 2010 Anderson Valley pinot noir fruit from the legendary Rich Savoy. Check out our video below from our first meeting with Rich earlier in the summer. And stay tuned for more updates as we move into harvest season. If you can’t see the video below, [...]
This morning we’re on our way south to visit the source of our new Santa Lucia Highlands vineyard for the last time before the 2010 harvest. As we’re battling traffic, caffeine overdose, screaming kids and their raging DVD selection conflict in the back row, we thought now would be a good time to formally announce [...]
Sometimes writing for this blog is a real pleasure. The words flow, the stories gel, and the positive feedback makes it all worthwhile. Other times, I’d rather be sentenced to a good old fashioned caning than have to sit here and force the prose out like I’m passing a kidney stone. Today is a golf ball [...]
