Nick O’Leary Riesling 2009

Date: Wed, Nov 4, 2009 Wine Tasting

I’ve taken a liking to Canberra Riesling - not too austere, not too fruity. You need a subscription to The Wine Front to see this part of the post

Seppelt Drumborg Chardonnay 2007

Date: Tue, Nov 3, 2009 Wine Tasting

This new Drumborg is a ‘reserve” release chardonnay. It’s come about because Penfolds/Yattarna has stopped taking the cream of Drumborg chardonnay grapes. This was all hand-picked, all natural ferment, 30 percent French oak, and 100 percent malo. The idea is that the Jaluka will be modelled on Chablis but the Drumborg will be modelled on [...]

Seppelt Drumborg Pinot Noir 2008

Date: Tue, Nov 3, 2009 Wine Tasting

Drumborg is in the extreme south-west of Victoria. This wine was wild yeast fermented in open fermenters, with a portion of whole bunches included. Good to see the pinot noir getting some love at Seppelt. You need a subscription to The Wine Front to see this part of the post

Grampians Winemakers Reserve Shiraz 2007

Date: Tue, Nov 3, 2009 Wine Tasting

I’m running this review just as a record of the wine. It’s not available for sale. It was made by a group of Grampians winemakers from a selection of Grampians producers, and it was then auctioned at a special Grampians function/auction. Apparently they’ve been doing this since 1991. I think the 2005 version is the [...]

Hurley Vineyard Hommage Pinot Noir 2007

Date: Tue, Nov 3, 2009 Wine Tasting

I reckon this Hurley Vineyard pinot noir is a better wine because it’s under cork. Which isn’t something that I would normally say - this statement is specific to this wine. You need a subscription to The Wine Front to see this part of the post

Epsilon Tempranillo Graciano 2008

Baldivis Estate Cabernet Merlot 2008

Date: Tue, Nov 3, 2009 Wine Tasting

This comes in PET packaging, which looks surprisingly smaller than a standard glass bottle, and really makes me want to lob it somewhere just for fun. The press release tells me that when compared to 750 ml glass tests show Reduces packaging weight per litre by 84% Uses 19% less energy Produces 78% less solid waste Emits 52% less greenhouse [...]

Lazy Ballerina Shiraz 2008

Date: Mon, Nov 2, 2009 Wine Tasting

I read somewhere that Lazy Ballerina’s 2008 shiraz suffered a bottling mishap - so this isn’t the wine that was intended. It’s (I believe) made up of a combination of the Lazy Ballerina Shiraz to escape mishap, and some donated McLaren Vale shiraz. The end result is a pretty good wine. You need a subscription to [...]

Sixfootsix Pinot Noir by Austins 2008

Bought this for Melbourne Cup and just nipped out to trot out (ho hum) a quick note. That’s dedication eh? You need a subscription to The Wine Front to see this part of the post

Paxton AAA Shiraz Grenache 2008

Date: Mon, Nov 2, 2009 Wine Tasting

It’s a low-oak version of a classic McLaren Vale blend. It’s almost always good, too. You need a subscription to The Wine Front to see this part of the post

Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Viognier 2008

Date: Mon, Nov 2, 2009 Wine Tasting

Brokenwood’s Indigo Vineyard at Beechworth was planted in 1999, so the vines should just now be enterting maturity. This viognier was fermented and matured in aged French oak - though you’d be hard-pressed to taste oak in the wine. A good thing. You need a subscription to The Wine Front to see this part of the [...]
